About The Breed Of Kadaknath Chicken

The breed of Kadaknath is the rarest one and it is breeded largely in the state of Madhya Pradesh, the meat of this breed is blackish in colour with excellent taste and eggs are brownish, People believe Kadaknath Chicken has medicinal value, hence nowadays demand for this breed has grown.   

The breed of Kadaknath Chicken is making its presence in Southern states of India also, this chicken grows and gets body weight of about 1 kg to 1.30 kg in about 100 days.

Breed Care

Most important step in breeding Kadaknath Chicken is raising its chicks, Since the Kadaknath hen is poor brooders hence to raise this breed a method is used known as incubation, firstly the eggs is placed in incubation for about 21 days with sufficient temperature, if the eggs are hatched after 21 days the chicks are taken out providing proper shelter, hence brooders are used, the brooders may be metal or wooden with a bulb to give enough heat to protect the chicks with proper ventilation is provided and sufficient drinkers and feeders should be arranged.

For feeding sufficient nutrients food with proteins and vitamins are fed to chicks so that they grow healthier, and clean and neat water should also be provided. 

Regular vaccination such as HVT, RD, IBD, and Chicken pox are given to chicks in regular intervals.

If one wishes to start poultry they can leave the chicks in a shed with proper ventilation and arrangements should be made for their feeding, separate space are arranged for the egg laying hen with proper disease free environment. 

The Kadaknath Female chicken shall lay eggs about 100 to 120 eggs per year, this breed has a life span about 10 to 12 years.

Feeding

Feeds which have higher protein, Vitamin, carbohydrates and minerals such as sodium, calcium, Potassium, Phosphorus, chlorine, iron, Zinc, copper and iodine should be included in a chicken diet. 

Disease

Some of the diseases which occurs in Kadaknath Chicken includes:

1. Bird Flu

This disease is caused by influenza, symptoms includes less egg production, less hunger, early deaths and chicken shall be visible as lazy, to prevent this disease germ destroyer is sprayed inside and outside where chicken is raised.

2. Chicken Pox

The symptoms of this disease includes sores around Eyes and Ears, the treatment for this disease is Homeopathic treatment.

3. Ranikhet Disease 

This disease occurs in every age and symptoms include fainted legs and feathers, difficult in breathing and treatment includes Vaccination.

4. Alfatoxin

symptoms include decreased blood level, less thirst, less egg production and treatment includes Tefroli tonic is used during feeding.
